Wold Do The Double Over Local Rivals In Pony Moore Fixtures

By

Match Report From The Annual Pony Moore

Written by David Vaughan

A great day was had by all at the annual Pony Moore fixture, this year held on the Common at Southwold. It was as always a great social occasion but again as always both games were hard fought on the pitch
Wold 1stXV got their just revenge for last years narrow defeat at Beccles with a pretty overwhelming win over Beccles this year. Beccles battled and tackled their hearts out but were starved of possession and found it hard to keep up with the pace of the constant attacks that Wold made through the game
Wold with a massive wind behind them in the first half went in to the break ay 17 - 0 with tries from Jonah Cunningham, Jamie Jenner and Ollie Carlstroem and one conversion from Luke Wade.
No-one was sure if 17 points would be enough as one Beccles Wag said at half time that " it had been at least a 20 point wind and Wold had not taken enough advantage of it "
His hope however was short lived as James Hall went over for Wold's fourth only four minutes in to the second half and ten minutes later Jonah Cunningham sprinted up the right hand touchline for his second try of the match and Wold's fifth taking them with the successful conversion in to an unassailable lead at 29 - 0 with just over a quarter of the game left
Five minutes from time Wold got their sixth as Callum Anthony having come on as sub at No 10 stepped and twisted his way over the line for a great individual try and Josh Wallis at 15 added the extra two points to give the final score of 36 - 0 in Wold's favour
Not even the Wag had anything to say or could argue that Wold had not deserved their victory, and were later able to put the Pony Moore Trophy back behind the Southwold Clubhouse bar
Wold's young Development Squad overran Beccles II and kept their 100% winning record for the season having already won their league and gained promotion in to Eastern Counties 2 North for next season
Well done to skipper Aaron Bliss and all his team for a good end to what has been a great season for them
