North Walsham arrived to a calm setting on Southwold Common (possibly under a false sense of security!) With a couple of absentees including our top try scorer Renee, Southwold would have to prove themselves as individuals as well as a team. With many new players to the game our side needed to remember valuable lessons from training.
From the off our forwards proved dominant which immediately brought a rush of confidence with straight hard running and effectiveness at the breakdowns. Consistent quality ball to Toby at scrum half offered him plenty of options. Despite some lazy handling in the backs the forwards supported them well and Toby's sheer determination to score would soon pay off, more than once!
When under pressure the backs came good and denied NW a try in the first half. Toby stayed strong throughout the match and started to dominate with blind side moves following numerous successful scrums and good second phase ball.
Some great handling, and proof that the ball does move faster than the man made the space that meant Southwold could play. Ashley had some great runs on the left wing and after several attempts finally got his just deserve.
NW pulled one back late in the second half but the counter from big George sealed their fate. The team played exceptionally well with hard work also from Archie,Dylan, Jade, Daniel, Sjaak, Harry, Henry, the Twins and Chuckles. Toby set the bar of work rate and sheer physicality and a big thank you to Matthew for making up the numbers for NW.
