A scrappy warn-up was followed initially by an equally scrappy start to the match. Fortunately, the opposition were not as organised and as strong as some of the teams we will be facing so individual talent provided us with a cushion of points. Christian, driving over from short range, just reaching the line gave us our first points. Tom breaking blind gave us the second. The next three were all classic wingers' tries were we simply passed down the line and ran around the opposition from the half way line.
Apart from the tries, there were some high points in the match including some superb jinxing runs from Josh, some crunching drives from Jack A and ex-L&Y player, Konnor, and some equally crunching tackles by the usual subjects. We also had some debuts again this week from Stan in the backs and Tim in the front-row. Five new people have now played in our first two matches and if we can persuade these boys to stay we will have strength in depth - something that the team has never had.
Notably the match became a bit feisty in the second half but thankfully one of the best refs on the circuit, Peter Medhurst, ensured that the game passed with out any serious incident. Equally notably, our boys were not intimidated and very 'up for it'! Well done boys.
Men of the match were Josh, Brannan and Tim. Best "clear-out" was won by Billy.
ps. we also won the boat race in the clubhouse afterwards.
