Yet another great, incredibly close contest against a terrific Beccles side

A cracking game on Sunday saw the U15 Sharks hold on for victory against an impressive, well organised and sporting Beccles team.

We have said it before and we will say it again, the true value of any victory relies on the quality and worth of the opposition. In that respect, the Beccles U15s proved themselves to be a big test in yet another close match between the sides. They displayed impressive fire, heart and skills right up until the final whistle and earned the respect of all those watching and, most especially, the respect of the U15 Sharks.

Turning to the match, Luke Hazzard and Daniel Hamilton-McGinty both continued to impress by scoring great first half tries. Beccles were far from beaten though and they clawed the score back to 10-7 with a converted try by half time. Sam Button, who is also having a great season, secured victory with a second half try before Beccles again fought back and put points on the board with their second converted try. The U15 Sharks were to hold on to that 15-14 lead until the final whistle though, despite Beccles brave and nerve wracking heroic efforts.

The three try scorers are having a great season but mention has to be made of the U15 Sharks pack which performed incredibly well. Once again they proved that forwards win matches and the backs decide by how much :-) This was far from a forwards only performance by the Sharks though, the backs put in a truly immense shift of work to their very great credit! Having turned the tide, it is only a matter of time (hopefully this week) before those hugely talented backs cut loose and get the rewards their efforts and talent richly deserve.

Two things were especially encouraging about this performance:

~ the first is that at long, long, long last, the U15 Sharks came flying out of the traps! They did not give their opponents a head start, for once they had a head start!

~ the second is that the U15 Sharks have started the road back to what has long been their great strengths - a fantastic attitude and a disciplined TEAM display!

There was no reliance on a few brave individual displays, rather this team went back to EVERYBODY taking responsibility and EVERYBODY putting in a shift of work and a brave display. There is a long way to go but every player who took part in the latest of this long sequence of tight games should be very, very proud of themselves and their performance.
