Southwold lose 0-17 to Bury.

After the high of the tour results, it was down to earth with a bump as the boys lost at home to Bury. Conceding three tries in the first half done the damage, albeit Southwold kept a clean sheet in the second period.

The Wold team really didn't start playing until the second period, but Bury were also very resolute in the first half and ensured that once they got their noses in front they were going to hold on. The first try came about after Southwodl missed touch from a penalty, and as Bury came forward it was missed tackles that allowed the first try to be scored. Southwold battled hard and tried in vain to stop the Bury team crossing the line, but they were caught out on the blind side for the second try and a lack of numbers wide for the third.

The team just didn't seem to secure possession quick enough, and when they did have the ball it was either knocked on or too slow across the backs. This gave the Bury team time to either counter ruck or to come up quick, leaving a lack of space for the pace to be used.

The second half was a much better performance, but even with periods camped in the Bury 22 the boys just couldn't get over the try line. Closest chance came from a good kick through from Callum, but Darius struggled to collect the bouncing ball under pressue and knocked on. The defence was more solid in the second half, as tackles from Jacob E and Jake T brought attacks to an end swiftly. The forwards came together more in this half and secured some good ball, with Alex and Pablo driving the ball forward. However Bury were well drilled and gave up little ground.

As the half drew to a close, Keiran made a nice break from his own try line and with some neat off loads in the pack (Jacob B and Zak) it seemed that Southwold may get something from the game. But a dropped pass ensured Bury gained the ball and went on to secure the win.

Special mention to all those players playing out of position today due to absentees and injuries, it is appreciated by the whole squad.
