Wold Run Riot And With 14 Tries To Go Third In The Table

It was just one of those days when Wold turned on the class and simply blew their Essex opposition away, in perfect sunny and still playing conditions on the Common.
It must be some sort of league record to secure a bonus point for scoring four tries in the first eleven minutes, with a score of 22 – 0, but that is just what Wold achieved, playing a combination of perfect possession rugby with some lethal finishing.
That start was a mortal blow from which Romford never recovered, as their defence fell in to some disarray and never seemed to re-organise itself throughout the entire game.
Romford realistically barely got out of their own twenty two in the first half, and had little or no ball to try and combat the onslaught they found themselves under right from the first whistle, with Wold keeping ball in hand almost continuously.
Under the orchestration of Ollie Carlstroem at scrum half, and with the Wold pack winning everything, by half time it was 50 – 0 to the home team. The Wold backs were on fire with three tries for Cameron Bonner at inside centre, two for both right winger James Barton and skipper Cemil Duruk at outside centre and one try for fly half Luke Wade, who also weighed in with five conversions in the half.
After the break, within five minutes, left winger Jacob English went over for his first try to re-open the scoring. Romford then had their one moment of glory with a terrific sprint down the right hand touchline at lightening pace by their winger who cut inside and fed the lad who was ably keeping up with him and who duly scored under the posts, the initial run having started in their own twenty two. It had taken sixty five minutes, was totally against the run of play, but it was a great try and a deserved seven points for a team so under the Wold cosh.
It wasn’t to be the start of a miracle come back though as within two minutes Cameron Bonner was in for his fourth try as he backed up yet another Ollie Carlstroem break up the middle and within the blink of an eye Jacob English now playing at full back cut a beautiful line as the extra man to storm in for his second try of the day and Wold’s eleventh.
Skipper Cemil Duruk then got his third try followed by super-sub Matt Howell who crashed over barely three minutes after his introduction.
Just before the whistle Zak Loader at number six got the first forwards try of the day and the last try of the game. Luke Wade’s sixth conversion of the second half was the final action and Wold had amassed 92 points with only 7 from Romford by way of reply.
The backs quite rightly will should get a lot of the credit for a great display of fierce ball handling and running rugby but the Wold pack won just about everything that was possible to feed those hungry men behind them
Biggest cheer of the day was in the second half when hooker James ( should have gone to Specsavers ) Hall made a fantastic break, as only James Hall can, right up the middle of the pitch, making a forty metre carry before looking and offloading beautifully to a Romford player. His wide infectious grin that followed said it all, and
on another day it may have been received differently, but with such a big lead, and resulting feel good factor with players and supporters alike, it was a comical moment to savour and made no material difference to a stunning Wold display in what was a resounding victory for the Black and Golds
