Goodbye tags hello tackles!
Southwold U9s travelled to Norwich on Sunday to face a very organised Crusaders in what was their very first contact game of the season!
Crusaders started well and were quick to break through the Southwold defence to score first, however, Southwold soon found their stride with Harry committing to a number of tackles to stop Crusaders in their tracks. Luca also stepped up to the plate to prove size does not matter and made several important tackles look easy!
With Wold’s confidence building, they started to push forward & a determined run by Cecily allowed Tom to pick the ball up & find his way over the Crusaders line to score Wold’s opening try. This was soon followed with Duncan's first try of the match and for his new club after he skillfully side stepped to weave his way down the wing.
Crusaders responded fiercely and they went on to score several tries in succession. Southwold looking slightly frazzled, did not give up and Luca, who also has great speed ran away from his tacklers to score & put his team back in the game.
Hugo, Jenson and Jack D also worked tirelessly in the middle and made a lot of good runs taking on their Crusaders opponents. Jack W, Chase and Fraser also played well & contributed in several Southwold attacks.
The game ended with a hard fought try by a slightly winded, but determined Jack.
Wold’s U9s showed a lot of heart and bravery especially when they took a painful knock so all in all a fantastic first game with lots to be proud of! The team can now look forward to Woodbridge Festival with confidence.
Arn’ The Wold!
