U21s win on the last play

An all together different match to the pre-Christmas fixture against Ipswich with very little between the two teams!

After 15 minutes of nip and tuck Woodbridge were the first to get points on the board choosing to kick a penalty on the 22. They clearly foresaw a tight game so elected to kick another penalty 10 minutes later.

Our backline, who ran freely at Ipswich, were expertly closed down throughout the match. But towards the end of the half a foray up the centre, a blindside call from Callum and some quick hands allowed Ollie to find the elusive gap. With Josh's conversion we went in to the break 7-6 up.

Our penalty count was too high and their kicker took full advantage of another one early in the second half adding a further 3 points to their score. However sustained pressure from our forwards in their 22 soon after provided the opportunity for Ben to split the defence after a switch with Josh and dot down under the posts. Josh's conversion put us back in the lead at 14-9.

The game continued to ebb and flow with nothing between the two teams until Woodbridge took the initiative and ran in two unconverted tries out wide.

As well as the penalty decisions continuing to go against us we were also making a few too many forced and unforced errors all of which was frustrating the players and supporters alike. Thankfully Zak stepped forward to even up the scores with a great break on their 22 and a step to evade the fullback. 19-19 with 5 minutes left on the clock.

The last few minutes was nerve racking but Callum saved the day with a blindside break 5 meters out and crashed over the line. Game over. Job done.
