A depleted team but no lack of team spirit

After two recent cancellations a depleted u16`s team was rearing to go against a joint Hadleigh / Sudbury team, the game was 13 a side with Southwold receiving a player from the opposition after a further drop out on the morning.

It was a bright morning on the common but a strong swirling wind made kicking awkward. The visitors started strongly and were soon 7-0 up with a try in the corner and a successful conversion. Wold began to wake up and soon replied with two tries first by Joe who broke through to go over and then Jesse with a little of his usual trickery scored. However the opposition were looking good and with good handling skills and powerful running a 10-7 lead to Wold soon became a 22-10 half-time lead to our visitors.

Although behind this team are made of strong stuff and they knew the wind would help them in the second half, they started positively and this eventually led to Harrison skilfully bursting through, he saw a gap and used it to score a good try, soon followed by George powering through between the posts. Jesse converted both and now Wold were winning 24-20. Wold tails were up and continued to pressurise the Visitors defence, but a mistake led to a break away try and the visitors were back in front 29-24, this powerful run went from one end to the other and the lad was not going to be caught. As we got close to the end of the game both sides were determined not to give until Arthur saw a gap and went over, Jesse converting to give Wold a two-point lead with a minute to go. The visitors were very determined in there play as they moved closer to the Wold line, but they held out and the ref blew to end the game, a very close 31-29 win to Wold, a massive thank you to our Visitors for coming, even after they knew we had a depleted side and the way they played the game, a credit to there clubs.
