On a bright sunny morning, Southwold u16 welcomed Woodbridge to the common for the first cup match of the season. These games are always closely fought, and the boys were up for it following a break caused by Covid.
This was a tough game right from the start, before sides looking for gaps and a break, Woodbridge showed that they had a strong scrum and the Wold boys were made to work hard to hold this, after an exchange of territory Wold opening the scoring with Jesse going over in the corner. A tough conversion was missed and the game restarted. Next it was Woodbridge`s turn to score and a passing move resulted in a try and a conversion.
It was a tough game now as Wold had most of play but were unable to convert until Callum went over, more play in the Woodbridge 22 led to an excellent interception from Lamps and he went over to score. 15-7 at half time. The second half was similar, Wold had most of the play but were unable to convert this into points against an increasingly frustrated Woodbridge side, this frustration was demonstrated by the number of penalties going to wold, eventually Raife and Nathan were able to break through and score, with Jesse converting both and the score was 29-7 and it stayed like this until the end. Woodbridge’s efforts were not helped by them losing there discipline and two players were yellow carded. Well played wold
