Rare bad day at the office for the U16’s

After an excellent run of wins, the U16`s were brought back to earth on Sunday by a talented Sudbury team.

Wold started quickly, Jesse scoring the first try after a good run from Nathan and converting it for a 7-0, Sudbury with some fast handling quickly hit back with two tries, they were quicker to the line than Wold and Wold were struggling to keep them out, Sudbury had to be held up on the line a couple times to stop them scoring, then Callum stretched his legs and ran through to score. The conversion was missed, and Wold led 12-10. Again, Sudbury were quick to reply as they ran through to score. Wold continued to be under the cosh but Just before the break Nathan broke the line and burst through for Wold and after the conversion, they led 19-15, after a tough half.

The Wold coaches were clear in what was going wrong and what was needed to improve and win the game, the lads were left in no doubt what they had to do; however, Sudbury came out of the blocks very quickly and with good speed and excellent handling scored 4 tries without reply. Jesse scored a clever individual try but that was it from Wold as Sudbury eventually ran out 49-24 winners, not Wolds best performance there were several missed tackles and team really did not react quickly to the Sudbury play, but this does not detract from Sudbury who very well organised and deserved to win, good luck to them in the second-place plate play offs at finals day.

This was the last friendly fixture of the season 8 wins and 2 losses in a season once again affected by Covid, so not a bad season, highlights were a first victory against North Walsham and another victory against the local rival Beccles and the way the boys have developed as a team, yesterday was a blip but overall this team has played some excellent rugby and scored a lot of tries.

The u16`s still have the Ipswich 7`s and Suffolk finals day to look forward to where they are looking to win the Plate competition.

MOM for Wold today was Ben, he was one of a few highlights.
