Match Report: West Norfolk 7 – 26 Southwold
Southwold secured an outstanding away victory at West Norfolk on Saturday — a ground where wins are always hard earned. Built on early control, set-piece dominance and intelligent game management, it was a disciplined and composed performance from Wold.
Early pressure told when Luke Wade opened the scoring with a well-struck penalty for 3–0. The forwards then began to assert real authority at the scrum, and from controlled phases back up the blindside, Captain Sherard Block finished superbly in the corner to extend the lead to 8–0.
Southwold capitalised again when an overthrown West Norfolk lineout was pounced upon. Scrum-half Nick Saunders broke beyond the 22 before finding Block in support, who crossed near the posts to make it 13–0 at the break.
Wold started the second half with the same intensity, and Wade slotted his second penalty to push the advantage to 16–0. West Norfolk responded well with a smart interchange down the left flank to reduce the deficit to 16–7, setting up a competitive final quarter.
Southwold, however, remained composed. From a lineout platform and a series of patient pick-and-go phases, the ball was worked blind for Theo Kenny to finish strongly in the corner and restore breathing space at 21–7.
The final score came after sustained pressure inside the 22, with Jonny Utting reacting quickest to a clever kick through to dot down in the corner, sealing a deserved 26–7 victory.
A measured and clinical display away from home, showing maturity and resilience in difficult surroundings. A result the squad can be proud of.
Arn the Wold!
