Southwold Ladies 30 vs Hitchin Ladies 8

Branded as ‘One Dimensional’ by Hitchin last season, Southwold went out with a point to prove. Maintaining their unbeaten record in RFUW South East North 2, on Sunday with a comprehensive 30-8 victory over Hithchin Ladies.

Having won against Norfolk rivals Wymondham Wasps 15-0 the previous week, Southwold ran in six tries to one - with tries from Bev Whyte, Donna Cooper, Nina Roe, Elissa Cox, Amy Gregory and newcomer Libby Whiting. It took Southwold 10 minutes to break the deadlock and make their mark on the scoreboard. Libby Whiting scored after countless rucking from well-drilled forwards. Hitchin attacked into Southwold’s 22, not releasing from a tackle Hitchin took advantage and kicked for the posts score. Shortly after Southwold won a lineout three metres out saw Southwold secure a strong driving maul over the line, try scored by Bev Whyte. Hitchin took a quick penalty and managed to ran through virtually untouched to score. Half time 10-8

Narrowly taking the lead, soon after kick off some good forward pressure from Laura Marjoram & Lorraine Calver in midfield, the ball was recycled along the line for Donna Cooper to finish in the corner. The conversion was missed, but the one-way traffic continued for Southwold with Ellissa Cox and Amy Gregory touching down for tries. Disciplined and patient after the restart, Southwold continued their dominance on the scoreboard. A Hitchin line out saw Southwold pressurise their ball carrier and move Hitchin backwards.
