Rarely have either team fielded a full squad, including a bench, all season but the relegation stakes were high.
Our front 5 were all experienced campaigners and have proved solid against all the best teams this season, but they where significantly lighter than Woodbridge and in the slippery conditions had to work hard. Our back row, lead by the inform Nina and flanked by the Duruk sisters, were mobile and powerful in both defence and attack. With Tiffany at scrum half again, Emma leading the backs at 10 and Annabel at 15, the backbone of the backs was looking good - and with Remy and Jasmine in the centres we were strong in both attack and defence.
Even our newbies are now old -timers with 4 games of rugby firmly under their belts and none of them looked out of place!
It's fair to say that we dominated the game from the outset but it was 20 minutes before Emma found a great line and took the ball at full pace to break through their lines and ran in a super try from inside our half. We expected the floodgates to open but due to heroic defence from Woodbridge, including a few try line cover tackles, we were unable to add to cross the line again. So the result teetered uncertainly for the next 60 minutes with a breakaway try always possible.
Every player in the squad put in a hell of a shift and they thoroughly deserved the win which hopefully assures that we will stay in the League next season. Well done girls.
