Match Report – Saturday 27th September 2025
Southwold RFC 2nd XV 36 – 17 Beccles RFC 2nd XV
The Common was buzzing on Saturday as Southwold 2nd XV welcomed near neighbours Beccles for a fiercely contested local derby. Both sides gave the crowd plenty to cheer in a match full of pace, power, and no shortage of drama.
Southwold made the stronger start, with Matt Rodwell finishing under the posts before Sam Colman added a second after a close-range penalty, both converted by Tom Howland for a 14–0 lead. The pressure kept coming, and Harvey Fuller powered over from short range after a collapsed maul, again converted, stretching the score to 21–0.
Beccles responded with determination, their centre breaking through to score under the posts to close the gap. But Wold struck back in style—Henry Ewart cutting through from halfway with a superb solo try to make it 26–7.
The visitors dug in and twice crossed from sustained forward pressure, but Southwold kept their composure. A dominant maul from a lineout drove over for a crucial score, before the pack underlined their dominance at scrum time, shoving Beccles off their own ball for Ed Chapman to crash over.
The final whistle confirmed a 36–17 victory for Southwold—an excellent display of forward power, sharp finishing, and resolute defence. Beccles played their part in a spirited derby, keeping the contest alive throughout and earning plenty of respect from both sets of supporters.
A fantastic result for the 2s, showing once again the depth and determination across the club.
