Wold U14 welcome Woodbridge RUFC for the first home match of the season

Southwold were hoping to build on the succes of there last game as they entered the first home game of season, 16 players were available and we welcomed two new players Arlo and Charlie. Woodbridge have a good sized squad and a competitive game was expected.

Wold started well and created pressure right from the start holding Woodbridge in there own half as theyt looked for a way through, its virtually a new pack this year and although appearing nervous at first it soon started to be more effective and Wolds first try came from a scrum, no8 Raife picking up at the back and powering over. In very windy conditions the conversion was missed but Wold were on the board. The game continued in the same way as Wold pushed for a second score and it came from good handling as Louis passed to Callum to run in, once again the extra two were missed but a 10-0 lead was a fair score. It was time now for Woodbridge to display a bit of skill as they scored a try, they turned the ball over on there own line and ran the full length of the pitch to score. It was definitely not a day for kickers and the score stayed 10-5. The rest of the half was closly fought until Freddie P picked the ball up at the back of a ruck and ran from his own half to score and make it 15-5, the wind virtually blew the kick back and the half ended with this score.

The second half was similar to the first Wold created nearly all of the pressure and only spent 5 minutes in total in there own half as they pushed for more scores, eventually Raife pcked the ball up and powered through again for his second, Callum was unlucky with the kick and Wold led 20-5, the fifth try was skillfully created by Sav as he kicked for the corner and Callum raced through to touch down. This time Freddie L scored the converson and it was 27-5. Southwold relaxed slightly and Woodbridge went through to score just before the end. Final score 27-10.

Some real plus points from the team today, the pack got better and better as the game went on. Louis organised the line well and we saw good tackling and running by everyone. It was a real team effort today.
