Travelling with just nine fit players due to recent injuries, our lads showed tremendous grit and determination from the very first whistle. A massive thank you to Wymondham for their fantastic sportsmanship in lending us a player so we could get a proper game underway at 10-a-side—it’s that kind of spirit that makes grass-roots rugby so special. ?
Southwold hit the ground running, with Casey and Henry opening the scoring to give us an early lead. Wymondham fought back strongly with a few well-worked tries of their own, but our boys dug deep to stay ahead going into the half-time break.
The second half was a brilliant display of heart and skill from Southwold. Max, Morgan, Beau, and Buddy all crossed the line with some fantastic team tries as we kept Wymondham on the ropes for large parts of the game. However, with a good sized bench, Wymondham was able to rotate fresh legs regularly. With no substitutes to fall back on, fatigue started to set in for our tired legs, allowing Wymondham to pull level with five minutes to go and narrowly edge it in the dying moments to finish 55-45.
Though the result didn't quite go our way at the final whistle, we couldn't be prouder of the sheer effort, respect, and discipline shown by every single player out on the pitch today. They gave it everything they had and represented Southwold brilliantly.
Thank you to Wymondham for hosting a fantastic, high-scoring match played in great spirit, and to all our traveling parents for your fantastic support! On to the next one! ??
