Two well matched sides tussle until the final whistle.

This was always going to be a close game, both sides got off to a strong start, but the advantage was gained by Southwold when Hamish took a well timed pass and ran from the half way line to score under the posts in the first 5 minutes, Charlie converted to give us a 7 point lead. Ipswich came straight back at us, we defended well for a time but our tackling let us down and they levelled the score. The game ebbed and flowed, with Ipswich having the advantage in the scrum. But once again some good ball work along the line gave Hamish another chance to make a run from the half way line which gave us the lead again after Charlie converted. Ipswich piled on the pressure leading up to half time and scored after some poor tackling from Southwold. The conversion was missed so Southwold went into half time with a two point lead.
The second half saw Ipswich come at Southwold from the whistle, we defended well but at times our rucking and scrum let us down. But the boys all showed great heart and a great pass on the wing from Charlie to Hamish gave him a clear run to again score under the posts, Charlie again converted and we took to defending our 21 : 12 lead. The next 10 minutes were a big test for the boys they were put under great pressure from a team who hadn’t lost for 18 months and didn’t want that to change. The ball was passed along the line to Luke and Naill who made a great run well into the Ipswich half to ease the pressure. We defended well keeping them at bay until in the dying moments of the game but they managed to score again, but unfortunately time wasn’t on their side. Southwold won 21:19.
