On a beautiful sunny Sunday morning the boys didn’t seem up for the game but we couldn’t have been more wrong.

Woodbridge kicked off and immediately put Southwold under pressure, their forwards pressed up and mauled well winning the ball, but the boys responded well and put in the tackles winning back the ball. Luke and Archie made two individual runs moving us into their half but a strong defensive performance from Woodbridge kept us at bay. Archie Winter saw a gap and made an excellent run to score our first try of the match, unfortunately Charlie missed the conversion. Woodbridge came straight back at us and one of their forwards made an excellent run dodging tackles to get to our 10 yard line. They pressed hard and were making ground when the ball became loose and we fortunately came away with it. Some good end to end play followed but we gave away a few silly penalties. Woodbridge in the scrum were very strong and we at times struggled to hold our own. A strong run from Hamish got him to within 5 yards of the line when he was well tackled, as he fell he slipped the ball to Niall who moved it out to Charlie who quickly fed it to Archie who dived over the line to score, Charlie converted. From the kick it was clear that Woodbridge were up for a game they pressed us hard and an excellent run from there number 8 and some excellent passing saw them scoring an superb try. We went into half time 12 : 5.

The second half got off to a blistering start with some hard tackles having to be put in especially by Callum who was all over the park in an attempt to stop Woodbridge getting to close to our line. We fought for the ball and managed to move it quickly along the line which gave Luke and Louie another chance to make some ground for us. The boys pilled on the pressure and Will Donsworth ran through to score, Charlie converted. We came straight back at Woodbridge from the kickoff and an amazing solo run from Niall gave us another try, Charlie converted. A period followed were both teams fought to make ground on the other an excellent run from Woodbridge got them to within yards of the try line requiring Hamish to make an excellent tackle to force a line out which we managed to win. Callum again made some outstanding tackles as Woodbridge again came back at us; we held our line and finally won the ball. This gave our backs the opportunity to move the ball out to Niall who again made a terrific run to score, Charlie converted. From the kick we moved the ball wide to Hamish who ran on to score, again Charlie converted.

Woodbridge showed great spirit and determination their strong forwards pilled on the pressure and they found a gap to run through to score. From the kick they made another excellent run to within yards of the try line. We defended well for what seemed like an age but there strength paid off and they scored again just as the final whistle was about to be blown.

Men of the match: Niall Excell and Callum Easton.
