A very worthwhile training match was organised at late notice with neighbours Beccles and the whole experience was extremely useful for introducing the u13s to the new competitive scrum and a larger pitch. The lads appreciated a scrum session from Beccles coach Stuart Adams and it helped enormously during the match as both teams held steady in the set piece.
Wold showed their collective experience by being dominant in the breakdown and then more effective running the ball and knowing when to search for space. Credit must go to Beccles who have had an influx of players from L&Y and so had not played much together. Their determination and team spirit will serve them well as the season progresses. Wold no8 Max scored four impressive tries in the first half yet still managed to be generous distributing the ball to his teammates well throughout the game. Freddie P had a powerful game in the second row and scored a try in each half. Beccles awarded their MOM to Wold no10 Saville who had a very balanced game, running the ball at every opportunity and freeing his backs skilfully while bagging a try of his own. Oscar C earned the Southwold coaches MOM for his running off Saville in the centres followed by the second half at no8. His powerful bursts gave him two well deserved tries. Raife bagged a score and had his usual strong game at second row, hassling kick receivers well and defending solidly. Louis was captain for the day and scored a neat try with a direct burst through midfield to add to some excellent defence on the wing.
Mention must go to new players Troy, Harrison B and Oscar F, all of whom had excellent games and are welcome and valuable members to the squad. Troy and Harrison proved themselves as aggressive and strong front towers while Oscar had a fine game at second row before showing some pace and tackling ability on the wing.
