Wymondham u13 60, Southwold u13 5

With a cancelled midweek training session, half term relaxation, a long journey, several unavailabilities, the moon in the wrong phase, and Brexit looming, Southwold were clinging to straws to explain their lack of interest this week. Suffice to say it wasn't a good day at the office and we made a good Wymondham team look far better than they were.

Without dwelling too much the biggest 'work on' has got to be the ease with which Wold switch off when they go behind on the scoreboard. Invariably when we start to lose it becomes a rout. The legs stop working, they group up, throw silly passes and watch the game disappear. Somehow the coaches have to come up with a remedy for mental strength. All budding Sports Psychologists welcome.

On the positive side, after a tough first half, the boys rallied in the second, kept the scores down and scored one of their own. The referee offered help which the coaches graciously declined having faith that the players could pull themselves out of a below-par display. It worked to an extent with Max scoring a fine solo effort. Troy fully deserved his man of the match display with some bruising runs, good ball presentation and a couple of thunderous tackles. Louis and Lamps did their best to get things going in midfield but were outgunned. George had another good show on the wing and James made a number of important tackles as the last line of defence.

When they were asked what they thought of the performance the boys knew all the answers to where they went wrong, so hopefully we can take the positives forward, the players can address the issues and we can put in an improved performance midweek at Beccles.
