Sharks show they can compete with the biggest clubs in the region.

This waterfall tournament leads on to another in the new year and while there were no 'winners' the teams will get seeded for the next tournament based on their performance here.

Thanks go to Ross Cowie at Suffolk RFU for organising the day, Colchester RFC for hosting and all the young officials for reffing some excellent games. Games were 12 minutes one way.

Sharks were pooled with the top teams Bury A, Sudbury A, Colchester A, and Ipswich A, obviously all from big enough clubs that they could field two teams.

First up were Bury who ran out 5-0 winners and went on to prove they were by far the best side on the whole day. Sharks actually played very well with the majority of the game in the midfield, but some strong runners out wide proved our undoing.

After a rocket from the coaches, Wold perked up and put in a super performance against Sudbury, running out 4-0 winners with tries from Max, Raife and Jesse. Raife's powerful play was a massive positive but unfortunately he took a bad knock to the head which means a second concussion break for him this season. Best wishes to him.

Third up were Ipswich who were a very even match although we lost 2-0 after being a little naïve and trying to play from our own 22 rather than gain territory and then spreading the ball.

Sadly we also lost the final game against Colchester 2-1, but this was an altogether better performance, with some tactical kicking from Savile and Lamps getting us down the park, and a much better defensive line. A huge tackle by Oscar F galvanised the side and allowed George to collect the ball in his own half and sprint to the line. Considering the hosts had beaten us soundly at home earlier in the year, this was a very even affair and served to show the boys can play some exciting tough rugby when they are in the right frame of mind.

All in all a positive day and well worth the effort. A bonus was the presence of the Saints DPP scouts who mentioned a few of our lads for referral.
