Southwold Colts 34–14 Wymondham Colts
Colts make a flying start to secure another impressive Eastern Counties Conference victory on the Common.
Southwold Colts welcomed Wymondham to the Common on Sunday for their latest Eastern Counties Conference fixture, with the boys proudly sporting their smart new match shirts.
Looking the part in their new kit, the Colts certainly seemed fired up for the occasion and, for once, came flying out of the blocks!
Anyone who has followed this group of boys over the years will know they have developed a bit of a habit of leaving their energy and enthusiasm in the changing room for the opening ten minutes. However, there was no sign of that this week! It was almost as though they'd all had three Weetabix for breakfast!
From the opening whistle, Southwold played with real energy, desire and purpose. Their work rate and commitment were excellent, putting Wymondham under pressure from the start and helping the home side race into an early **15–0 lead**.
With Wymondham arriving short of numbers and suffering a couple of knocks during the game, both clubs agreed to move to a 14-a-side contest to ensure the fixture could continue.
In the true spirit of rugby, several Southwold players volunteered to pull on the red and black shirts of Wymondham.
A special mention must go to these boys, who were a real credit to Southwold Rugby Club. They gave absolutely everything for their temporary teammates and certainly didn't give their usual Southwold teammates an easy ride! Their attitude and commitment perfectly demonstrated the values of respect, teamwork and sportsmanship that are so important in our game.
Back on the pitch, Southwold continued to produce some excellent rugby, building on their impressive start with plenty of attacking intent, hard work and determination.
Another strong all-round team performance saw the Colts run out **34–14 winners**, securing a well-deserved victory and continuing their positive start to the Eastern Counties Conference campaign.
There was plenty for the coaching team to be pleased with, particularly the intensity and focus shown from the very first whistle. The challenge now will be to maintain those standards as the season progresses.
A huge thank you to Wymondham for making the trip to the Common and for the excellent spirit in which the game was played, and to all the parents, volunteers and supporters who continue to get behind the boys.
